Best management Practices (BMP)
A Best Management Practice (BMP) is a practice or combination of practices determined to be the most effective, practical
means for protecting our natural resources. Practicability is demonstrated through technical feasibility
(research findings, field trials, experience), economic feasibility (cost effectiveness), and acceptability
(the responsible party must be willing to apply and maintain them).
The cost-share program supports
using various practices in conservation planning to treat animal waste, cropland, pastureland and forested land. Some are
paid for at a straight per-acre rate. Others are cost-shared on a percentage basis up to 75 percent. In some cases, USDA also
pays a percentage. Cost-share practices can often be funded by a combination of state and federal funds.
Currently applications are being accepted for the State BMP cost share program. If you are interested in signing up or have any questions, please call the district office. |
